I’ve created this writing space as a new mom needing an outlet to express my thoughts and more importantly be REAL about my life — the good the bad and even the taboo. I want this to be a place where all ideas are welcome and discussions are born.
A little about me…I was born and raised in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia. I started dreaming about becoming a journalist when I was about 13 and never really looked back. I moved to Montreal to begin my journalism degree at Concordia University and later moved to Edmonton where I started working at CTV Edmonton in 2006. Being a west coast girl at heart I relocated to Vancouver at the beginning of 2013 to take on a new role at Global BC as the morning anchor of BC1, the province’s first 24-hour news channel. A few years later in 2016, I became the host of Global News Morning BC. Despite the crazy early mornings, it is a job that I love and feel privileged to have.
I am currently on mat leave after my husband and I welcomed our beautiful son Hugo into the world in May 2020. He is a blessing in every sense of the word and has made me love deeper than I ever could have imagined.
I’ve been a broadcast journalist for nearly 15 years and while I know the ins and outs of television news — the mom world is new to me. As I navigate this challenging and rewarding new job I am realizing that I have so much to say! So I’ve created this writing space… a place to call my own where I can share what’s on my mind.
This is me a couple hours after undergoing an unexpected surgery following a frightening postpartum hemorrhage. In the days after welcoming my daughter Sohana into the world I have had many people reach out to ask how I’ve been doing. My response has been pretty standard…aside from the sleep deprivation I was doing well. This was the truth…until about two weeks postpartum when things took a sudden turn.
This month marks a major milestone for me. Out of the past 24 months I have been pregnant for 17 of them! I know I am not setting a record or anything, but I am telling you I feel like I have been pregnant forever. With two pregnancies so close together I have tried my fair share of pregnancy and postpartum items and remedies, so I’ve decided to compile a list of some of my favourite things that will help YOU on this incredible journey.
One year ago I was 8 months pregnant and adjusting to lockdown life after abruptly saying goodbye to my co-workers and Global BC viewers. Now a year later I am getting ready to step out of my condo, put on something other than black leggings and join my team on Global News Morning.
I am proud to announce that Haircuts for a Cause is coming back for its 4th year in support of Wigs for Kids BC! It has been a labour of love and I was afraid it wouldn’t happen, but my friends at Brush Salon, who’ve been proud supporters from the beginning, are stepping up in a big way. This year’s edition comes with all the appropriate COVID precautions and will be held over the course of two weeks from October 25 - November 7th to give everyone time to book in and for people to space apart.
